DPM: Tie-ups will give birth to quality education in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Partnerships between the public and private sector have the potential to enhance the quality of education in Malaysia, and the Government is keen to promote these partnerships to introduce variety and creativity into the existing school system.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said such partnerships were in line with the NKRA initiatives to increase the involvement of the private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the community as part of efforts to deliver quality education.

He said this was necessary to produce the required human capital that would contribute positively towards achieving high-income nation status by 2020.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the skills and financial muscle provided by the private sector would assist the Government in transforming Malaysian schools into effective centres of education.

Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) Education NKRA director Tengku Nurul Azian Tengku Shahriman said private companies could play an active role in under-enrolled schools.
