PIMA To Be Expanded To All Daily Secondary Schools In 2018

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 25 (Bernama) — The Education Ministry will expand the Upper Secondary Industry Apprenticeship Programme (PIMA) with the industry to all daily secondary schools starting 2018.

Under PIMA, upper secondary students, involving only fourth and fifth formers, will spend 70 per cent of their learning time in the industry, and only 30 per cent in class.

Deputy Education director-general (Education Operation Sector) Datuk Ahmad Tajudin Jab said as a pilot project, the programme would be implemented at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Rahman Putra beginning March this year, before it was expanded to 2,408 daily secondary schools nationwide.

“We also target 10 per cent of the 2,408 daily secondary schools nationwide will offer the PIMA to their upper secondary students by end of this year,” he said during a briefing session on the expansion of PIMA in his office here today.

PIMA, which aims at equipping the students with vocational skills in line with the demands of the industry, will focus on students involved in the Special Integration Education Programme (PPKI) who now numbered 26,099.

Ahmad Tajuddin said as of October last year, 779 schools participated in the PPKI involving students with learning problems, as well as those with visual and hearing disabilities.
