New rural hostel in Kemabong Lama

KEMABONG: A new rural hostel will be built in Kemambong Lama to replace the dilapidated temporary hostel with a RM100,000 allocation from the state Rural Development Ministry.

The Minister concerned, Datuk Ewon Benedick during a working visit to the Kemabong constituency on Monday, had dropped by the temporary hostel which was built by parents for their children who are attending SK Kemabong and SMK Kemabong.

“Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar has informed me about the temporary hostel which was built by parents from various villages such as Rundum, Sumambu, Kapulu, Katubu, Kengkawang, Kolorok, Patian and Ungga. I personally visited the dorm and it saddened me to see the condition of the dilapidated building.

“Despite that, I truly commended the students’ effort and spirit to go to school. It reminded me of the sacrifice and struggle of my own mother to educate her children no matter how hard our living conditions were then.

“Therefore I have approved an allocation of RM100,000 this year to build a rural hostel for these students,” he said. Ewon also requested the Kemabong sub-district office to make the hostel a priority project for this year.

“I admit that this allocation is not enough to meet the needs of the rural students here. But I hope more parties will come forward to help them,” he said.

Also present were Tenom Member of Parliament Noorita Sual and local community leaders.
