KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 62 new Covid-19 cases were reported today, pushing Malaysia’s total cumulative cases to more than 10,000 since the pandemic began.

Only one of the 62 new cases was an imported case, with the majority of the local transmission cases hailing from the Benteng LD cluster in Sabah.

Dr Noor Hisham said out of the 61 local transmission cases, 41 involved locals and 20 involved foreigners.

“The highest number of positive cases is in Sabah at 59 cases including 48 cases from Benteng LD cluster involving 20 foreigners and four health officers from the Lahad Datu Hospital,” he said.

The rest of the Sabah cases, he said, involved individuals who tested positive during screening for arrivals from Peninsular Malaysia (3 cases); screening at the Lahad Datu health clinic (2), the Pulau cluster (1) and Sandakan prison (1).

Dr Noor Hisham said one case was detected in Kedah, originating from the Sungai cluster while in Penang, one new case was also detected.

“The Penang case involves a family member of case 9397 and 9459. It is understood that they are all relatives living under one roof,” he said.

The sole imported case, meanwhile, involves a Malaysian who arrived from India.

He said 15 Covid-19 patients are currently in the intensive care units while three cases require respiratory assistance.

On the number of recoveries, Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 26 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the fully recovered cumulative cases to 9,235 cases or 92.1 per cent.

No new fatalities were recorded today, which places the death toll at 128 cases.
